This is a two channel composition not split left/right but down/up. The left speaker is placed on the floor, the right one is placed on the ceiling or organ gallery. Both emit the sound in the others speaker direction.

Atme Welten

»Atme Welten« (english: „Breathing Worlds“) tries to build an acoustic relationship between different world constructions. »Worlds« in this context are different dimensions of our perception of reality. They communicate and connect spiritually, geographically, morally, etc. over distance although they sometimes seem very unequal.

The phenomenon is particularly sensitive today. For millennia a sense for distance existed only in the extreme: real life radius versus unreal spiritual cosmos – we are now confronted with a mass of ideas about life, morals, values, possibilities and so on and run the risk of loosing a feeling for local and temporal dimension. The reality of the world we can perceive with our senses gets uncertain too therefore.

A special transformation has befallen the churches here. Originally conceived as a place for performing and passing on faith, as a place for communication of the community and as a way to regularly determine one’s position between the worlds, it nowadays loses these functions more and more. The need for mysticism and the irrational is fulfilled somewhere else.

»Atme Welten« plays with the above considerations, and builds relationships by sounds between the speakers.
